Prem Gupta, a resident of Ranchi’s Kishoreganj area, brought his daughter back from her in-laws a few days ago.
Prem Gupta told the BBC that he took this decision keeping in mind society and the people around him.
“We spent a lot of money on our daughter’s marriage, but when we came to know about this situation, we decided that if my daughter is not wrong, why not bring her back to our home with dignity so that no one can get married?” he says. When Prem was explaining his decision, his daughter, Sakshi Gupta, was also present. Sakshi Gupta shared with the BBC the moments when she saw her father with the band Baje.
She says that this day was the first Navratri. Papa said that on that day, Lakshmi would be brought back home. I was packing when I heard the sound of drums. I thought a procession was coming towards the house, but when I came out, I saw that it was my father and my family. I was surprised.
Sakshi further said, ‘Before going out, I was looking at my wedding photos; it didn’t feel good to see them, and I felt a lot of pain. I tore up the wedding photos before leaving that house. When I came out and Papa put his hand on my shoulder, I saw a smile on his face, from which I knew that he was not sad but satisfied with my decision.
“My father considers girls Lakshmi and loves not only them but all the girls in the house,” says Sakshi.
She says that every father should take the decision that my father took for his daughter.
‘Parents gave me a normal life as before’:
Sakshi says that ‘Papa left me crying, but he came to take me with joy. Seeing this, the burden of divorce was reduced.
Sakshi said, ‘Nowadays, whenever I go somewhere, I feel very proud. My parents have given me the same normal life as before. It wasn’t my fault that the relationship didn’t work out. I cannot forget the past, but yes, the trauma and pain have reduced a lot.
In response to a question about her future, Sakshi said, “I want to be financially self-sufficient and stable.”
“I have graduated in fashion design; now I am going to start my studies again. I have a small dream: to open my own boutique. I am very interested in clothes,” she says.
“I have been getting messages from many girls like me on Facebook and Instagram; I have shown many girls the way,” she says.
Prem Gupta says, ‘I want to tell such girls to share their problems and problems with their parents, and parents should also support their daughter.
